Fifty Five Years of Ripples

Posted by Andrew Scott on

Fifty Five Years of Ripples

Every where we looked we seen your smile
You have left so very many of them as reminders
Reminding us to be joyful
Reminding us how much you loved us
Reminding us to be fully present
So we gathered together to comfort each other
Desperately needing to feel your presence
We wanted so badly to honour you

By honouring you
we got to see deep within ourselves
to our inner spring of emotions
We attempted to maintain composure
so that we could get our words out
An impossible task
because we felt so deeply
Tears and laughter spilled over from our hearts
refreshing our spirits
connecting us to our humanity
Through loving tears our sweetness intermingled

So we spoke of you
in quiet and boisterous tones
Remembering and celebrating you
We marvelled at the gifts you have given each of us
Other's memories were added to our own
They connected the dots of a life well shared
Your story has touched so many
Fifty five years of ripples will travel beyond that day
So as we move on you will not be forgotten
Each of us holds onto one of your smiles
That special smile that was just for us
Thank you dear Jeanette
We love you and will miss you so much.

Asleep with eyes open

Asleep with eyes open

I sit in a chair
Looking out to nowhere
Haunted blank stare
Open eyes unaware

Sitting in a chair with wheels
No one knows what I feel
Is there anything for me that is real

A young girl visits every day
She hates to see me this way
I used to have so much to say
She longs for me to be okay

My body is near
Yet my mind isn't here
locked away by fear
Look close you may see a tear

Through this darkness I hear her voice
Awakened I make a choice
A dry tongue becomes moist

Back to reality
From the brink of infinity
Her love sets me free
Brings me where I'm supposed to be

I paid a terrible cost
So many years were lost
My mind locked in frost

A victim of war
Shaken to my core
I couldn't take anymore
So my mind shut the door
Now from these lips my soul can pour!

Pain Felt Soul Tears

Write to me about your greatest pain
Let me hold it within my hands

I have lived here within my perfect world
I have not felt anything
Let me s e e through your eyes

I badly want to FEEL alive
Prick my soul with delicious pain
I'm tired of only SUNshine
I wish to e x p e r i e n c e rain

Tears flow into me
I feel like I am DROWNING
What have I asked for?
I beg you PLEASE take it back!
I can't h o l d onto your pain!

Lost and found

Lost and found

Lost and Found

Be quiet quiet quiet
Yes quiet as a mouse
It's nobody else's business
What goes on inside our house
We like our big little secrets
All disguised in pretty bows
These things are just between us
It is best that no one knows!

The little girl she listened
Held that burden of belief
Pretended with eyes of happy
But inside she held her grief
Losing her voice to a sorrow
That she wasn't allowed to show
Inside a numbing awareness
and no safe place where she could go

She kept on being quiet
Those around her thought it weird
She tried so hard to form her words
But her voice had disappeared
She lived within the shadows
until one day she made a choice
No longer would she be silent
She prayed "Please God give me my voice!"

Some answers don't come easy
But God helps us when we try
Her voice started as whisper
Yet on words she learned to fly
Her message spoken clearly
big little secrets shouldn't be kept
The girl became a woman
and she earned her self respect

Within light thoughts are shifted
She's not afraid to be seen
Truthful words tell her story
Others know where she has been
Her voice reveals her beauty
She knows freedom in her heart
With us she shares her secrets
Her pain transformed into art!

Dedicated to the girl who lost her voice,
and the woman who found it. Freyja Jensen.

Shattering Rose Glasses

Shattering Rose Glasses

Uncomplicated me
I thought I was coloured blind
free thinking and kind
with an evolved mind
Loving and accepting
of the ones I find

Yet my blindness
Is that of privilege
I'm just a visitor
in the Global village
From my narrow thin mind
there is too much spillage

Although so many
are forced from their homes
My life seems carefree
I am deaf to the groans
Brown women wearing veils
that can't protect them from stones

I live in a white washed place
No "Freedom Marches"
for men of a different race
Yet, if I look back and trace
there are darker stories to face
We all took part in shameful things
Yes, we share in the disgrace.

Highways of tears
Rivers of shame
There's always
someone else to blame
Residential schools
Each child got a new name
They were forced to forget
the place from where they came

Prisons filled
with black and red skinned men
They can't forget
this now or that then
Promises and promises
but who how and when
Or will their children
have to live it all over again

So yes
I am coloured blind
with a partially opened mind
Now I'll let colour seep in
Starting somewhere different
today I can begin
Because I know
it shouldn't be
just the privileged who win!

The Rising

The Rising

Sultry girl
Crouching tiptoed on a chair
Watching as it rises
She fears and welcomes the flood
Shivers in anticipation
Will she meet the waters with equal force?
Or will she be swept away
by the depth of his desire?

Seeing what I want to human folly

Seeing what I want to human folly

Like a warm breeze
She can please me
and tease my heart

Yes, from the start
Her strange art was
two part told lies

Pool like in size
When she tries to
those eyes can fool

Witches Treedom

Posted by Richard Lamoureux on

"Light the fires, we hunt a witch tonight,
under the light of a pale blue moon
We're the masters of all that is right
Join with the righteous as we sing our tune"

The woman a healer, with ancient spells
Living in the forest, amongst the trees
With herbs and crystals the future she tells
She is so disturbed, by all that she sees

Why are so many, now coming for her
It's not her intention to do them harm
Within her mind the images all blur
All of the forest is under her charm

"There in the distance we can see her house.
Wrapped amongst the branches of all those trees.
We will approach as quiet as a mouse,
then like lions we will do what we please!"

She steps out the door to address them all.
"Do not approach if you know what is best!"
The leader laughs as he makes his own call.
"We are here to put a stake through your chest."

With a wave of her hand, the trees all dance.
Gnarled roots start grabbing up from the ground.
All those evil men didn't have a chance.
The forest filled with a horrible sound!

Within the wood you can see their hands.
As well as faces contorted and dark.
They chose not to listen to her commands.
Eternally entombed within the tree bark.

For Jerry Curtis's "Creep Me Out" contest.

Disclaimer: No witches, mortals or tree's were harmed during the writing of this poem. In no way does this poem demonstrate a belief in the occult but is merely for entertainment purposes. It does however show that not all who believe they are righteous are truly righteous. Many things in history have been done in the name of God by truly depraved and ungodly people. They convinced many people to follow in their paths.

Happy Anniversary Sweetie

Happy Anniversary Sweetie

Twenty one years and counting
I'm blessed to be with you dear
No better place in the world
Than being with you right here

From the first day I met you
My soul was finally set free
I couldn't believe an angel
Was meant as a gift for me

Plans had been set in motion
Orchestrated by God's hand
The shifting of time and space
We heeded our Lord's command

Love would not be possible
Without complicated plan
Our worlds had been far apart
Until I became your man

Moments they became hours
Until they turned into years
I've been gifted with true joy
You have wiped away my tears

Being with you is easy
I look forward to each day
Interesting conversations
I love the way that we play

You are my fountain of youth
An elixir for my soul
I'm thankful to be with you
With you sweetie I am whole

Happy Anniversary my love.
Thanks for the best years of my life.

The Bridge

Posted by Richard Lamoureux on

The Bridge

I walk towards you,
as you stand waiting at the center of the bridge.

Beneath my feet, aged timbers span the churning river below.
With each step I see you more clearly.
My eyes search out the younger you,
that wild child with chestnut hair.
I can still remember your pigtails and ear to ear grin.
Back then, laugher was such an important part of us.
Somehow,
thankfully,
from the start,
we just seemed to get each other.

As I approach,
I see both of us in your eyes.
The twinkles hidden within the wrinkles,
laugh lines, the evidence of our pleasure.
As you open your arms we embrace.
For a moment, time relinquishes its dominion.
Two friends once again, occupy a sacred moment,
grieving and celebrating the passage of everything.
We wonder, what if anything can be reclaimed?
Together, wishing yesterday forward!

The bridge groans under our childlike expectations.

In a split second everything changes!
We place young hands on the bridges revived splendor.
Amazed, we look over its railing.
There below, the river reverses upon itself,
flowing backwards until it stops.
The glass like surface reflects back images of our younger selves.
I look back into your eyes with wonder,
how is this possible?
Once again we are both twelve,
standing on this baby blue bridge.
You too look shocked,
What is going through your mind?

Age has loosed its shackles!
The years reeling back like hands on a sprung clock.
I think my eyes deceive me, but it is you.
A cowlick sticking straight up and you have that crooked smile.
Your blue eyes playfully daring me,
to follow you into a new adventure.
This adventure occupies the reaches of our imaginations!
Your hand rests beside mine,
it feels familiar and safe.
How I have missed you my friend,
missed your voice, your exuberance for life.

As twilight lingers
and the stillness of time settles about us,
I see us as we were.
Long ago we said our goodbyes on this very bridge.
We promised one day we would return to this very spot.
A pinky swear magical promise!
Then we waded into our unknown years.
The river of time split us in two directions.
Many escapades, broken hearts,
triumphs and horrors.
Somehow, we grasped at the memories of a forever friendship.
A phone call, a transformative whisper,
beckoning us to return,
to a bridge,
to a time,
to a feeling.

Twelve years old,
hands clasped and swinging.
We skip to the beat of our own accordians.
Together we dare life to give its all.
We are ready once again,
for skinned knees,
adventure,
perhaps some heartache,
but mostly belly laughter and ear to ear grins!
