Poetry Contest Contestant

I tell myself
You will not define me
By putting me at the bottom
Or in a slightly higher place
I see no honor in your mention
I am not a favorite child
Thankfully my words remain my own
Spilled from tipped glass
Soaking into white cloth
These stains have meanings
They exist outside of arbitrary rules
I cannot dance to a one person band
So I tell myself
It doesn't matter
Yet why
Why! does it make me sadder
Sometimes even madder and madder
I read through other's winning work
Is this some kind of joke?
I thought mine had substance
Perhaps it was nothing but smoke
Wait
I said you would not define me
Yet here I go again
Digging up the old bones that caused me pain
Forgetting the meaning of my own stain
Poured out
Yet no one will see
Why?
Why?
Is it not about me!
I want that elusive first place
To be the winner of the race
Able to be humble
Accept the praise with grace
Instead
I'm denied
I settle for a three
Not the way it was supposed to be
How come the Judge couldn't see?
It remains a mystery
But wait the next contest
I am number one
A metaphorical home run
Gleaming under the poetic sun
Finally
Thankfully
Defined

Until I read a lower number
Then I am left to wonder
Inside I feel their deeper hunger
Their glass spilt
Left a darker stain
Much more depth within their pain
So I start from the beginning again
You will not define me!
I will not Define Me
I will just be.
A lover of words
Formed into
Poetry

Little Big Man

Little Big Man

He walks proud
Like a man
Who has much bigger balls
Dangeling there
In his underwear

He has attitude to spare
Even with
A partial head of hair
People look his way
They can't help but stare
Perhaps it's the fact
He doesn't care

He absorbs
The atmosphere
From each and every room
His mighty voice
In the air does loom
Like the after shock
Of a sonic boom

Short in stature
Yet it doesn't matter
Twin to Arnold
Just a bit fatter
One of my favorites
A consummate actor

Wether being a tin man
Or throwning mama from a train
I like watching him
Over and over again
He's got skills
He invades my brain
Loved him in Taxi
He made insanity sane
He's been a Ruthless person
Causing other people pain
A slow driver
Occupying the fast lane A comedic king
Long may he reign

Boy oh boy and a girl

Boy oh boy and a girl

I wish to claim
My boyness
My yesterday sillyness
Innocent shyness
My crinkled nose grininess
That hide and seekiness
Spin the bottle
kind of meekness

Getting caught
My hand in the cookie jarness
That pushing too farness
Collecting comic charminess
Pulling pigtales
Stolen kisses
Hidden playboy kinda business
Cop a feel inquisitiveness

Being a bit
Self concience
A true life witness
Loving the mysterious
Laughing more than being serious
Feeling delirious
Not afraid
Somewhat curious

Wondering
About adultness
What it was all aboutness
Thinking that it lead to freeness
I'd know just how to be ness
Eating what I want
Staying up late kinda keeness

Now I wonder
What was the rushness
To reach adultness
Full of it's doubtiness
What's it all aboutness
I witness it's dreamlessness
It's no longer about me-ness
More mundane
To much sane-ness
Routine and sameness
No one cares if you cameness
Less is less
And more is moreness
Can't see the trees
Through the dark forest

So grab onto your girliness
I'll bring my boyness
There will be more
Way more
Yesirey
Hotdigity
Joyousness
No more boringness
We'll spin in circles
Enjoy our dizziness
After all
Having fun
Is a serious business!
